Our History
A place of ancient flavors
The House and the Bridge were built in 1295 by the Florentine Republic, even before the original nucleated village of Vicchio took form. The traditional stories tell us that during 1600 the place became an Inn, where patrons could have a meal and lodging. In the first half of 1800, the Inn became a great grocery store. After the Second World War ended, in those times, the House became a Trattoria, named “Trattoria dei Pescatori”; the name was inspired and given due to the local fishermans who were gathering in the courtyard behind the house, to feast. Since the owners had always been swine farmers, they started producing and sell swine sausages in the gastronomy. In 1897, Franco e Maria Grazia took over the business and only after one year, with the amazing help of Nonno Gino (Grandpa Gino - the Chef), of Zio Maurizio (Uncle Maurizio -The Pastry Chef), and Nonno Vasco (Grandpa Vasco), began to serve the first Fresh Pasta dishes. “La Casa del Prosciutto“ owns and acknowledges its unique identity, thanks to the strong harmonious family team spirit, who kept well and unchanged the distinct recipes, dietary art practices of the oldest culinary traditions of Mugello.

Grandfather Gino
Grandfather Gino, born in 1930, is the Chef. He owns the secret of the recipes and the ingredients to make them.

Grandfather Vasco
Grandfather Vasco, born in 1933, is the Factotum. An essential for "La Casa del Prosciutto".

Maria Grazia
Mariagrazia, Gino's daughter, is the Mind. Her abilities allows her to glide smoothly throughout the scene.

Franco
Franco, Vasco's son, is the Innkeeper. Great connoisseur and wine selector, he will create the right pairings with cheeses and cold cuts.

Maurizio
Uncle Maurizio, Maria Grazia's brother, is the Pastry Chef. Also known as "the sweetest man in Mugello", he knows how to delight customers with wonderful and luscious creations..

Giulio
Giulio is the Mastro Pastaio. Tortelli, fresh pasta (and social networks) are not a secret for him and even during the aperitifs he knows how to amaze customers with wonderful preparations.

Sofia
Sofia, daughter of Franco and Maria Grazia, is the Sauces Expert. Her inspiration and dedication make the summer open-air experience at "La Casa del Prosciutto" a truly unique experience.
